Alpha is a practical introduction to the Christian faith where people gather together to learn about the Christian faith in an informal, friendly and non-pressuring way. It is therefore enjoyed as much by those who have never set foot in a church as it is by those who are regular churchgoers, and everyone in between. Beginning on September 22, we will gather together on Sunday evenings for a meal and fellowship. Afterward, we will watch a short video presentation on topics, such as “Who is Jesus?”, “Why Did Jesus Die?”, “How Can We Have Faith?”, and “Why and How Do I Pray?” The video presentation will be followed by a brief discussion about what was viewed. The course will run for 6 weeks, from September 22 to October 27. We invite you to come to the first meeting. At the end of that night, we invite those who would like to do so to come back again later even if they miss a week or two. Many people find, however, that after the first week they don’t want to stop coming, and the weeks fly by as they delve into the basics of Christian faith as never before.
You don’t have to bring anything to attend, but some people bring their Bible, a notepad and a pen. We also strongly encourage you to bring a friend (or two or three). In fact, some of the most rewarding times at Alpha meetings have occurred when people brought a family member, friend, or co-worker. This is because Jesus promised (in Matthew 18:20) that “where two or three are gathered in My name, I am there among them.” To prepare for this spiritual growth event, we invite you to begin by praying. Pray about your involvement. Pray about whom you might invite to join you. Pray that God will use this event for His glory. For God has told us that if we pray, and humble ourselves, and seek His face, he will be present to us in healing ways (2 Chronicles 7:14).
