Jonestown is in Lebanon County, near where Route 81 meets Route 78. It is surrounded by farms, campgrounds, and creeks that meander through the countryside. The largest creek in the area is the Swatara. It runs west of Jonestown, under the Market Street Bridge, and carries rainwater from the Blue Mountains to the Susquehanna River. 8 years ago, a hurricane stalled over the area, deluging us with rain for several days. Eventually, the water began to race down the sides of the mountains and into the Swatara. That made the water run faster, but the shallow creek bed wouldn’t let it flow fast enough to move it all to the Susquehanna River.
